Asus EE PC - $150 [Nov. 11th, 2009|07:12 am]

Selling computer stuff again, this time a netbook. I don't have a picture on me at the moment, but it looks like this:

It has 4 (or, cant remember ) 8GB of HD space
512 MB RAM
Windows XP
Built-In Webcam
7inch Screen

Selling this for $150. Its in great condition. Its just been sitting on a shelf and its fairly new. Not close to being a year old. I got it during the summer. There's a NWS Heart skateboard sticker on the front. That's the only thing. It comes with a charger, power cable, and all my files will be deleted and a new account made if you want it before you get it.

Feel free to email me @ Videlcoolgirl@gmail.com if you're interested, or post here too. I work on campus, so it should be fairly easy to meet. You can even test it.

I also have PC computer parts available. Converted to Mac, so I have no need for them. Also, I can help actually put it into your computer if you need help or if you're not sure how to install.

2 - 1GB sticks RAM - $30 Each
1 Dual Monitor Stick
- $35 ( You have to open your box for this, and put it in manually. So you can have two screens instead of one)
Internal Netgear Wireless Card - $25 (forgot about this!)
1 19inch Monitor - $100

There is a 2010 graduation ceremony survey out. If you don't have any better ideas for how to respond, and would otherwise leave a question blank, why not put one of these?

Bill Cosby: because that would be awesome.

Zombies vs Pirates vs Ninjas vs Vampires: Think about it. Best graduation ever.

Counterpoint Journal: they're a cool idea. Or we could just do the organic farm again...

Every Grad Having To option To Bring An Instrument: such a theme could be very cool. a big procession of graduates and music....

ants in the pants [Nov. 3rd, 2009|12:38 pm]

zoe_trope
Some thoughts on homeownership after the first two weeks of living in our new house:

- Ants, ants, ants, ants. Well, not a lot of ants, actually. But the dumbest ants ever. They meander around the kitchen counters aimlessly, in search of je ne sais quoi. On Saturday morning, we found them climbing up the walls and scooting around the ceiling. Hello, ants? You’re going to have better luck on the floor. The situation improved considerably after I cleaned out the plastic recycling bins we use in the kitchen, which were coated in a thin layer of brown sticky goo, which apparently tastes likes nirvana if you’re an ant.

- Our new LG washer & dryer are amazing. The washer uses less water and spins everything really hard so the clothes come out just barely damp, which means less time in the dryer. Loooove it. Oh, and did I mention we have a laundry chute? We do. What you do, see, Theo, is you put the clothes in the hole, and then you don’t have to see them or smell them or think about them.

- The refrigerator is okay but not amazing. It’s tiny, so it fits neatly in the space allotted to it between the kitchen sink and the wall, but I’ve found that the door doesn’t shut unless you push it (are you reading this, dude?) and you have to be careful that nothing is blocking the door. I think it’s 9 cubic feet, so that means the Thanksgiving turkey is going to be kept in the kegerator.

- Having a gas fireplace is convenient and cozy, even if it lacks some of the ambience and toasty aromas of a wood-burning fireplace.

- You really take the little things for granted. Like handles and fixtures. And water pressure. The shower in the bathroom lacks a fixture to turn the water on/off or change the temperature, so you have to use pliers if you want to take a shower. We’ve purchased two handles already and neither fit, so now we have to head back to Lowe’s for a third try.

- Last night the stove started beeping and flashing an “F1” error code. Google reveals this in an incredibly common and aggravating issue with older stoves. Apparently you can fix it by disconnecting the clock or replacing your control panel entirely, which could cost $150 or so. Considering the stove is god-knows-how-old, I’m tempted to just chuck it. I e-mailed the realtor about the beeping issue and the home warranty, and she was kind enough to mention that she had noticed the beeping once when she came over. Thanks for never mentioning it, Realtor! We had to flip the circuit panel and turn off the oven just so we could sleep last night. Who wants to put in a gas line this weekend and buy Mama a new range, hmm?

- Some things can’t be beat, though. Like no landlords and no shared walls. Matt was playing DDR in the basement last night at 9:30, something he wouldn’t have been able to do in his 5th floor apartment. The neighborhood is incredibly quiet - none of our immediate neighbors have children and there’s almost no car traffic. Plus the IRS wrote a sweet little note to let us know that we’ll get our refund within a couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone who pays taxes – you’re buying us a new furnace!

Now that we have a bigger basement and I figured out that I can plug ALL MY VIDEO GAMES into the TV, I busted out the ol' metal DDR pad to see if I still had moves.

I didn't, and still don't.

I do remember though, why this game was (and is) addictive. Instead of trying to beat a new song or full combo one I know, I'm trying simply to pass them. The muscle memory is there, but the muscles ain't. Not yet, at least.

In other news, our landlords seem to be trying to screw us out of some deposit money (big surprise) or they're really serious about the carpet being all fucked up - gee, after not replacing it for several years and having it cleaned just once, do you think you should replace it? Oi.

But maybe I'm just a cranky old man... )
